Written in 2103- One of the realities of growing up in a dysfunctional
family is the lingering effect of feeling unsafe. Your natural ability to trust
in others may have been shattered. Mine was! Even though I've
worked on this issue for a number of years, it can still challenge me
today...who to trust...who not to trust...trusting my own choices.
Ways I've dealt with feeling unsafe in the past is either avoiding intimacy or controlling others/situations. Neither are
good options.
Regaining our ability to trust can be a life-long process.
We will all be challenged with loss, rejection, and disappointment. It’s simply part of the human experience. But it's important that we not let fear block us from the joy of intimacy.
