I’m looking back to when I first came into AA.
Once I stopped drinking, I can honestly say I never had the urge to pick it back up.
But I had a lot of work ahead of me.
I needed to understand why I drank in the first place.
And the answer was simple:
I was trying to ease the pain.
There had been pain inside me since I was a little girl.
Shortly after I came into AA, I began counseling and inner child work.
For the first time, I started looking beneath my behaviors and choices.
I began to understand myself.
Why I did what I did.
Why I made the choices I made.
Getting sober stopped the drinking.
But learning why I drank began the journey of healing.
